ATDF Entrepreneurship Hub (AEH) is part of the consortium that has been awarded a two and half year project by IDRC to support Africa’s science granting councils to develop policy frameworks and enabling structures for public-private partnerships in research and innovation. The consortium comprises Scinnovent Centre, Kenya (lead); Association of African Universities (AAU), Ghana; and the Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC) Impact Centre, South Africa,
AEH is leading the development of a generic research and technology commercialization framework that research funding agencies can use both as a guide in designing research calls, and as a tool to ensure research outputs they support reach the end user (i.e. the market). It is through effective commercialization that research outputs could actually make a difference in people’s lives – be it vaccines, seeds or early warning systems.
The project team is working with 16 national science granting councils in sub-Saharan Africa in East, Southern and Western Africa. The overall goal of this project is to support the Science Granting Councils by enhancing their capacity to develop and implement policy frameworks for research commercialization, technology transfer, intellectual property (IP) and public engagement.
